What exactly is a Dossier?

Good question!

We didn't really know either!

 Webster defines it as
: a file containing detailed records on a particular person or subject

So true!
This document (or huge giant stack of documents) is literally all the legal and personal information you would ever want to see about us!
(minus the pictures of course (those come later) and would make it a more fun read!)

For those of you out there who are detailed orientated like I am, let me give you a quick thumbnail list of what is involved:

1.     Certificate of Documentation (notarized) – basically a cover letter!
2.     Assumption of Responsibility
3.     Primary Agency License
4.     Home Study Agency License/Authority
5.     State Approval Letter
6.     Agency Cover Letter
7.     Adoption Home Study
8.     Letters of Reference (2)
9.     Financial Statement (involved form! - notarized)
10.  Federal Income Tax Statement
11.  Statement from your Financial Institution(s)
12.  Employment Verification Letter(s)
13.  Certified Copies of Birth Certificates
14.  Certified Copy of Marriage Certificate
15.  Health Statements (1 for each family member-which require physicals)
16.  Photocopies of Passports (which were current – thankfully!)
17.   DSDW Application for Child Adoption (involved form)

-       to be added after Authentication –

18.  Passport Photos
19.  Child Opinion Form
20.  Family Photos (6-10 in collage format)
21.  Agreement to complete Adoption
22.  Photocopies of Criminal Background Checks and Child Abuse Clearances
(which required running these checks!)

Signed.

Signed.
Next step - Sealed.

It's done! Well, the first part at least.

This packet, our Dossier, is now on its way to Washington DC to get Authenticated by the US State Department and by the Thai Embassy.

Some dear friends drove our precious Dossier to Grand Rapids yesterday to get it sealed by the state of Michigan.
So thankful to them!

Once this is returned, it will be sent to our agency, translated and then mailed to the Thai government.

One step closer!

Delivery!

It has arrived! Our 4 official copies of the home study! YAY!

If you have ever been curious about our detailed family background/story, just give this home study a read. It is incredible how thorough they are! The interview with the social worker felt like marriage counseling, without the feedback! She just asked tons of open ended questions - about things you probably have rarely thought of! Good times :)

We are waiting on a few more documents from our agency (and some time to fill out papers) and then we will have our Dossier and I-800A off in the mail! It seems like we should be able to complete our part of this process relatively quickly, but....you never know what life will throw your way.
